Se7en (Opening Sequence Analysis)

Se7en (Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt)

This crime/mystery thriller follows two detectives who together attempt to solve a series of grusome murders inspired by the seven deadly sins.

MUSIC

Accompanying the title credits to Se7en is an intelligent piece of music which sinister and atmospheric sounds works perfectly with the images used throughout. The genre of the music could be described as rock-esque and is fairly disjointed to go with the film and the charcter of the murderer who is extremely unhinged. As the jumpy music continues, the tempo towards the end begins to increase mirroring the movement of images and pace of film. The music ends with the lyrics 'you got me closer to God'. This line could be a reference to the killer of the movie, meaning he has the control and power similar to God when he murders his victims.

FONTS

The font is like messy, compressed handwriting, and is a white colour, which contrasts with the background in order to make it stand out. At first the text fades in and then flashes once of twice and then disappears, however has the credits go on, then no longer fade in, they just appear and flash once or twice then disappear again, the speed of which it happens is also very fast which I also think illustrates the idea that the images in the background are considered to be more important than the actual text.

+ Extreme close-ups to create suspicion

+ Barely colour / sepia tone

+ Images edited together - montage
